Summer Style with Madefromscotland.com

With summer finally starting to make an appearance, at madefromscotland.com we’ve got our eye on a few different products to update our wardrobes. We’re an Edinburgh-based company which showcases the best of independent Scottish designers in our online shop, so today we thought we’d introduce you to some of our talented designers and producers. We work with almost 100 different Scottish designers, across the categories of homewares, fashion, jewellery, prints & art, gifts and food & drink, and today we’re focusing on summer style.

One of our summer wardrobe staples is a bright tote bag for picnics in the park, trips to the beach, or shopping in the city. Glasgow designer Gillian Kyle is well known for her iconic illustrated designs (you’ll probably already be familiar with her Tunnock’s range!) and we think her Victorian Lemonade Coral Tote is the perfect summer bag. If you’re as obsessed with makeup as we are, why not treat yourself to a new makeup bag ready for summer? The Wild Flower Makeup Bag by Nikky d’Aguilar is sturdy and waterproof, which makes it great for chucking in your summer holiday suitcase. Nikky’s gorgeous designs are created from prints of her original oil paintings which are inspired by the beautiful natural surroundings of her home on Bardowie Loch.

We don’t need any excuse to treat ourselves to new jewellery, but summer is the perfect time to add one of Kirsteen Stewart’s bright Fan Necklaces to your jewellery collection. Statement necklaces are great for effortless summer style and this pretty design is part of Kirsteen’s Spring/Summer ’14 collection. The charms, inspired by traditional Japanese patterns on kimonos and fans, are laser-cut and the necklace is handmade in Kirsteen Stewart’s Orkney studio. If you fancy something a little more subtle, we love the cute Sterling Silver Jigsaw Necklace by 14 Ten Designs which would add a fun finishing touch to any summer outfit.

Although it might be summer, a scarf can be a great accessory for this season – well, it is Scotland after all! Choose a silk scarf to keep cool and look stylish during the summer months. Graduate designer Claire Corstorphine’s range of unique silk scarves is bright and beautiful; we particularly love her bold Rectangular Bird Scarf. Wear it with a white tee and skinny jeans to instantly brighten up a plain outfit.

Now that summer fashion and jewellery is taken care of, we couldn’t resist adding in a wee bit of homeware too – how cute is Mr Stag?! Made in Edinburgh by A Wooden Tree, he is created from calico and embellished with embroidery and vintage floral applique. Mr Stag comes ready to wall-mount and we think he’d be the perfect addition to your home this summer.
