Q&A with Wear Eponymous

Few Scottish companies make themselves as well known on social media than Wear Eponymous. Many times have we chatted with them on twitter and their support of bloggers is outstanding. Recently they have started a blogger twitter chat (#WEBlogger on Sunday night from 9-10pm) which are always fun and engaging.

For those who haven’t come across Wear Eponymous before can you explain to us about your company and why you set it up?

Wear Eponymous is a platform dedicated to redefining beauty and making quality clothing and emerging designers accessible at prices that don't break the bank. The company was born out of a frustration of large scale companies taking advantage of creative talent and giving little back. With all three founding directors coming from creative backgrounds, we believe firmly that no internship should go unpaid, no students should be exploited and that everybody should be able to enjoy style regardless of their circumstances. Everybody deserves a little piece of luxury!

Wear Eponymous is a unique name- where did it come from?

To be eponymous is to be the hero of your own story and our tagline “be your own story” reflects this! To “wear eponymous” is to dress for yourself and yourself only!

You aim to promote up and coming designers in your shop. Why do you think this is important in todays fashion world?

In today's fashion industry, it is all too easy to become lost in a sea of graduates and start-ups. Setting up a business in today's economic climate has never been harder and truly outstanding design talent is not receiving the recognition it deserves and that makes us really sad. So, that's why we champion emerging designers – to bring these little pockets of talent to the masses on a wider platform with a team experienced in PR and marketing. Everybody can buy into designer goods this way – with our customer base being able to access truly unique clothing and accessories at an entry-level price point.

What are your favourite SS2014 trends?

Pastels, geo and monochrome! Not to mention some beautiful florals too!

Social media is a huge part of your advertising- do you have any recommendations for our readers about promoting either their companies or blogs?

Treat everybody with respect and make time to take on board everybody's opinion – regardless of the number of followers they have. Somebody with 50 followers on Bloglovin has just as valid an opinion as somebody with 5,000 followers. Be creative and reach out to companies – but not with the mindset of getting freebies. The reality is very few new businesses are in the position to give away freebies and it is often the bloggers that support them regardless of this that are rewarded further down the line.

Keep Cool During This Scottish Heatwave with Wear Eponymous

This week, Scotland has been hit by a heatwave and as the residents of Glasgow crawl out of their homes pasty and sun-deprived, here are our top tips to keep cool to help us through this rare phenomenon.

Wardrobe

First port of call – make sure to dress appropriately for the weather. This doesn't translate immediately to “taps aff” as the frequenters of George Square may think, but rather embrace city chic and opt for light, flowing fabrics. If you're heading to the office, invest in a pair of city shorts and team with a blouse and blazer to keep it work-friendly. Otherwise, it is the perfect time to break out this season's most coveted trend – pastels! Team a statement pastel piece with crisp whites for a sophisticated style, or embrace the camisole trend and tuck a cute little cami into a pair of cigarette trousers. Remember, less is more in a city environment – leave the super short stuff for a trip to Ayr Beach!

Beauty
There is nothing worse than a touch of sunstroke and living in a climate with sporadic sun, so it is even more so important to apply sun cream of SPF 30 or above. There's nothing “cool” about looking like a patchwork quilt of skin, so make sure to apply liberally and keep topped up throughout the day – even if you are only out and about for a few hours. Keep make up light and simple – if you're worried about melting make-up set your daily routine with a translucent powder to improve longevity. Scrape hair up and out of your face and embrace summer braids and boho-style pleated crowns to keep cool.

A few things to remember:

  • It is essential to stay hydrated. Aim to drink around two litres of water a day – not only will it prevent headaches and other nasty symptoms associated with dehydration, but it will also help to keep skin clear.
  • If you are concerned about an outfit being too short, apply the fingertip rule – if the bottom of your outfit reaches your finger tips with your arms relaxed by your sides, then you're good to go.
  • If you're worried about a fringe sticking to your sweaty forehead, use a combination of twists and braids to scoop it off of your face. It will look super chic!
  • Don't be too conscious about your diet – after all, ice cream is one of the major perks of summer!
  • Do you have any tips for keeping cool in the summer?

An Introduction to Wear Eponymous

Fashion entrepreneurs challenge industry norms with the creation of forward thinking e-commerce clothing store, Wear Eponymous, due to launch on 1st February 2014.

Tired of working under the expectations of others, Scottish fashion photographer, Laura McKinnon, make-up artist, Elaine Burns and web designer Alan Armitage team up to present their own fashion e-commerce womanswear brand, Wear Eponymous. With a focus on individual style under the tagline, “be your own story”, the company proposes to provide consumers with the latest fashion, affordable luxury and bespoke designer pieces at high street prices. The Wear Eponymous online store will officially open to the public on 1st February 2014.

The Wear Eponymous (W.E.) concept spanned from the working experiences of all three fashion entrepreneurs. Agitated by increasing pressures to work for free and a lack of support for underground design talent in the UK, Armitage, Burns and McKinnon formed the blueprint for a trustworthy marketing platform. W.E. Art Director and co-founder Laura McKinnon, said: “We want to create a place from which to promote this talent at a realistic price. We believe everybody deserves a little piece of luxury and it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg to have it.” This support mechanism will come in the form of designer diffusion lines exclusively sold via the Wear Eponymous webpage.

Incorporated into this vision is the companies own ready-to-wear collection for S/S 2014. Targeted at young fashionable women aged 18-25; the Wear Eponymous collection is composed of key pieces including pastels, earthy tones and monochrome. The theme of the S/S collection was carefully selected to reflect the brand ethos and fit current trends. W.E. Creative Director and co-founder, Elaine Burns said: “The collection represents us as a brand; we want all aspects of the business to be black and white for our customers from the concept of affordable luxury to good morals.”

Since December 2013, Wear Eponymous has rallied support via social media. The “Hype” campaign introduced the label to an online audience. Through posting sneak previews of the S/S collection and allowing customers to experience the quality of Wear Eponymous products through giveaway competitions, the team have made the first step in their quest to create what W.E. Technical Director and co-founder, Alan Armitage refers to as a “modern customer centric business.”

The company is currently looking to reach out to bloggers for up and coming press events and launches.Already popular amongst the Scottish market, the Wear Eponymous team have high hopes for the February launch. The chosen designer for the first diffusion line will not be announced until 18:00 on launch day.
